Learn more about our products

The ring-tailed lemur is easily recognized by its long, bushy, black and white ringed tail. They are only found naturally on the island of Madagascar off the southeast coast of Africa.

Ring-tailed lemurs live in troops of up to 30 individuals led by a female matriarch. They communicate using a variety of sounds including purrs, moans, howls, chitters, clicks, and meows.

The ringed tail is used for balance and communication. Lemurs wave their tails to signal alarm or use them as a friendly greeting. Lemurs sunbathe by spreading out their arms and legs to absorb heat. It's one of their favorite morning activities. They have fox-like faces and are adept climbers, moving nimbly through the forest canopy searching for food. Omnivores, their diet includes fruit, leaves, flowers, tree bark, and small invertebrates. Ring-tailed lemurs breed seasonally, with females giving birth to a single offspring each year. Classified as endangered, major threats include habitat destruction, hunting, and the pet trade.
