Suzukawa – Yoshida Hiroshi (1931)

Mount Fuji mirrored in still water, framed by dark pines. In Suzukawa, Yoshida Hiroshi paints the snow-capped mountain rising above a quiet plain, its reflection floating perfectly on the water in the foreground. Soft greys, greens and pale blues give the scene the calm of early morning.

Why it works on your wall

• Calm and balanced: an ideal view for a bedroom, a living room or a meditation space.
• A horizontal format: it fits above a sofa, a bed or a sideboard.
• Framing tip: a thin black or natural oak frame and a white mount suit its quiet palette.

The print

Suzukawa is a place on the Suruga coast, at the foot of Mount Fuji, long admired by travellers for its view of the mountain. Yoshida Hiroshi (1876–1950), painter and great traveller, designed his own woodblock prints and supervised every step of their carving and printing. He is famous for his mastery of light and atmosphere, which he achieved by printing the same blocks many times with subtle changes of colour.
