Learn more about our products

Utagawa Hiroshige's "Asakusa Ricefields" is a striking ukiyo-e woodblock print from his famous series "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo." The image depicts a serene landscape of rice paddies in the Asakusa district of old Tokyo (then called Edo). Hiroshige's masterful use of color and perspective is evident in the portrayal of the expansive fields, possibly with distant buildings or Mount Fuji on the horizon. The print typically showcases the changing seasons, perhaps featuring workers tending the fields or birds in flight. Hiroshige's ability to capture atmospheric effects and the quiet beauty of everyday scenes is fully displayed in this work, making it a prime example of the ukiyo-e genre and a beloved representation of old Japan.

One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of 119 ukiyo-e prints begun and largely completed by the Japanese artist Hiroshige (1797–1858). The prints were first published in serialized form in 1856–59, with Hiroshige II completing the series after Hiroshige's death. It was tremendously popular and much reprinted.
