Before board games came in boxes, they came as folded sheets — printed, hand-coloured and sold by the same engravers who made maps and almanacs. These are designed in that spirit: download, print, cut, play.
Print the board on the heaviest paper your printer will take, or print it in two halves and tape them behind. Counters and cards go on thin card stock. It takes twenty minutes to assemble, which is part of the appeal — the making is half the afternoon.
They travel well too: a printed sheet folds into a suitcase where a box does not, which makes them useful for holidays and long train journeys.
