Frederick Catherwood was a British artist, architect, and explorer who is best known for his detailed drawings and illustrations of the ancient ruins of Maya civilization in Central America. He was born in 1799 in London, England and began his career as an architect, working on a variety of projects in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
