Collection: Bathroom Wall Art

Octopuses, shells, fish and Japanese waves: a selection of vintage sea life prints to bring the calm of the ocean into your bathroom. Antique natural history plates and Japanese woodblock prints, printed on thick matte archival paper.

Why sea life prints suit a bathroom

Water calls for water. The coiling tentacles of an octopus, the spiral of a shell or the silver scales of a fish feel at home next to a bath or a basin, and their soft blues, corals and sandy tones go with tiles, white walls and natural wood alike. All the prints in this collection come from old books and archives: natural history plates engraved and hand-coloured in the 18th and 19th centuries, and Japanese woodblock prints from the Edo period.

Octopuses and squid, the stars of the selection

The octopus is the bathroom favourite. The plates published by Férussac and d’Orbigny in 1835, such as the Red Octopus, or the elegant studies of Giuseppe Jatta, combine scientific precision and a strangely graphic beauty. Find them all in our octopus and squid prints.

Shells, fish and turtles

For a softer, more decorative look, choose the Twenty Tropical Shells of Johann Gustav Hoch, Mark Catesby’s Hawksbill Turtle, or the fish plates of Jacob Xaver Schmuzer. Their pale backgrounds open up a small room.

The sea in Japanese prints

Japanese printmakers drew the sea like no one else. Hokusai’s Great Wave off Kanagawa is the classic choice, Hiroshige’s Seascape at Satta brings a calmer horizon, and Kuniyoshi’s Octopus Games adds a touch of humour. More in our Japanese woodblock prints.

How to hang a print in a bathroom

A bathroom is a humid room: frame your print behind glass, keep it away from direct splashes and air the room after a shower. In a small bathroom, an A3 or 30x40 cm print is enough; above a bath, a 50x70 cm print or a pair of plates side by side makes a real statement. Every print is available in 13 sizes, from A4 to A0. Printed on thick matte archival paper. Free shipping, no minimum order. Shipped rolled in a sturdy tube.
