Blue and pale yellow irises rising on tall green leaves. Ohara Koson draws the flowers with a light hand on a cream background, leaving plenty of space around them. The result is fresh, graphic and very calm, like a window onto a Japanese garden in early summer, when irises bloom.

Why it works on your wall

Fresh blues and greens: perfect in a bedroom, a bathroom or a bright kitchen.
A tall, slender format: ideal for a narrow wall or in a pair.
Framing tip: a light oak or thin white frame keeps the airy feel.

The artist

Ohara Koson (1877–1945) is one of the great masters of kachō-e, the Japanese tradition of bird-and-flower prints, and a leading name of the shin-hanga movement. His flowers are admired for their delicate colours and their sense of space.
